On July 20-21, NGO “Mayors’ Club” together with Partnership for Local Economic Development and Democratic Governance Project (PLEDDG) organized a training course in local economic development for mayors and deputy mayors of 35 cities and towns from 17 regions of Ukraine.

The training course started off with welcoming words from Volodymyr Udovychenko, the President of Mayors’ Club, Kadie Ward, Senior Governance Advisor of PLEDDG Project, and Oleh Voytovych, Senior Expert in Intergovernmental Cooperation and Economic Development of PLEDDG Project. The speakers disposed participants towards a fruitful and constructive discussion.

The formal opening session was attended by Vasyl Kuybida, the President of National Academy for Public Administration under the President of Ukraine, who, in his speech, emphasized the importance of such training courses for representatives of local authorities.

This training course is not the first common activity between Mayors’ Club and PLEDDG Project. Following the resolutions of previous two sessions from last year, participants were presented with an improved training curriculum. Due to limitations in space, many mayors could not attend the training. In view of huge popularity and high demand for such events, Mayors’ Club jointly and PLEDDG Project decided to organize another training course in October this year.

The training curriculum focused on three major topics such as branding, marketing and investment, which are the most pressing issues for Ukrainian cities, given the fact that the training courses were attended by a significant number of heads of local governments from big cities, towns and regional centers of Ukraine.

The training course was very interactive. It was two-way communication that included presentations, group work, discussions, brainstorming, summation, mini project development and experience exchange.

The participants received tons of useful information and practical skills during the training course. At the end of the course, they expressed their wish to take part in other events organized by Mayors’ Club and PLEDDG Project. Participants were presented with certificates.
