PLEDDG Project is active in cooperating with the Association of Ukrainian Cities (AUC) on implementation of gender equality policies in Ukraine. In particular, PLEDDG Project supports the activity of the Committee on Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men of Association of Ukrainian Cities, the working meeting of which took place on February 20-21, 2018. At the meeting, results of implementation of the short-term gender initiatives which had won PLEDDG and AUC’s joint call for short-term gender initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s involvement in local economic development, were presented and discussed.

The winning initiatives are being implemented in such cities as Rivne, Pershotravensk, Tarascha, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Severodonestk, Irpin, and Vinnytsia. They include the ones that facilitate women entrepreneurship, provide training on branding, promote products manufactured by women entrepreneurs, and set up online platforms for communication and marketing of goods, with gender analysis and gender maps being developed underlying target programs and strategies to ensure and maintain gender equality in the economic life of communities.

Ukrainian MP, Iryna Suslova, the representative of parliamentary Inter-Factional Working Group “Equal Opportunities”, AUC Deputy Executive Director Valeriy Baranov, Gender Equality Consultant of PLEDDG Project Olena Tykhomyrova, and PLEDDG Project Manager in Canada Maryana Nikoula took part in the meeting.

At the invitation of PLEDDG Project, Marian Bruin, Canadian expert from the city of Edmonton, joined the meeting to provide Canadian perspective on gender equality. Ms. Bruin made a presentation about the role of women leaders in local government in Canada.

During the meeting, the publication “Gender Initiatives Implementation Experience, 2017-2018”, which had been issued in the framework of PLEDDG Project, was presented. The publication presents all PLEDDG-funded gender initiatives, with their successful practices and achievements described.
