PLEDDG Project Steering Committee is responsible for supervising the Project implementation and approving its key documentation. The Steering Committee includes representatives of the Embassy of Canada to Ukraine, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Utilities of Ukraine, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Association of Ukrainian Cities, mayors of 16 PLEDDG partner cities, heads of regional state administrations in PLEDDG pilot regions (Zaporizhia, Vinnytsia, Poltava, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions).
This year the Steering Committee meeting was co-chaired by Garth Frizzel, Councilor of City of Prince George and a Board Member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and Oleksandr Slobozhan, Executive Director of the Association of Ukrainian Cities.
The meeting was opened with a welcoming speech by Roman Waschuk, Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine. The Ambassador’s speech was then followed by a presentation by Marion Villanueva, Director of Programs at FCM, who introduced the participants to FCM’s international programs.
Oleksandr Kucherenko, PLEDDG Project Director, presented a PLEDDG Progress Report for Year 3, while Kadie Ward, PLEDDG Senior Governance Advisor, shared Project plans for 2018 –2019. Towards the end of the meeting PLEDDG partners were invited to share their impressions of the 3 years of cooperation with PLEDDG Project and comment on the proposed plans and budget for the following year. In particular, PLEDDG partners, which included mayors and deputy mayors of PLEDDG partner cities, acknowledged tremendous assistance from PLEDDDG team in the implementation of various initiatives concerning local economic development and democratic governance.
