Melitopol local government keeps working on the elaboration of a 2030 city development strategy. Yesterday, PLEDDG Project experts had a meeting with representatives of the local youth to talk about the future of Melitopol, namely what Melitopol would look like in 10 years’ time. The young people were actively participating in discussions.

It bears reminding that the current Melitopol development strategy is valid until 2020. In view of this, it was decided to develop a new strategy. Officials, public activists, and entrepreneurs got down to business. The task team on the development strategy elaboration has had their meeting for several times already. Meanwhile, the young people were asked to express their opinion on how Melitopol should look like in the near future.

– It is important that the strategy be written not by officials sitting in their offices but by the local community. Therefore, we make efforts to hold as many meetings and surveys as possible in order to understand what people want to see in Melitopol in 10 years’ time. The youth are a foundation of any city. That is why it is impossible to develop a strategy and not to be interested in young people’s opinion, – Ihor Lepyoshkin, PLEDDG Senior Expert and Head of Experts Group, said.

The tournament room of the chess school hosted the meeting with young people. They were welcomed by Deputy Mayor Serhii Pryima. Seeing them as basis for the future, he asked them to be actively involved in the work. The event was being held in the “open space” format. The participants were divided into groups. Each group had a task to prepare and come up with a project on how Melitopol would look like in 10 years’ time.
