Zaporizhia Evaluates Effectiveness of PLEDDG-supported City Projects

Today, Zaporizhia Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a meeting of the Advisory Committee on efficiency of governance and development for implementation of the Project “Partnership for Local Economic Development and Democratic Governance” in Zaporizhia. The main objective of the session was to discuss results of the implementation of initiatives and projects implemented in Zaporizhia with PLEDDG support. The discussion welcomed the participation of Valerii Edeliev, Zaporizhia Deputy Mayor, managers of municipal companies and city council departments, PLEDDG representatives, business, and community.

The Advisory Committee was created in 2015 at the launch of cooperation with PLEDDG. Since then, a great number of the projects vital for the city have been implemented. They include an open management model put in place and community involvement in city management, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and improvement of administrative services accessibility for citizens.

– Due to PLEDDG Project support, a Zaporizhia Development Strategy and the Program for of Zaporizhia Small and Medium-sized Entrepreneurship Development for 2017-2017 were developed. In 2018, there was concluded an agreement on implementation of the project for improvement of quality and accessibility of administrative services to citizens through creation of administrative services provision branches in Shevchenko District of Zaporizhia. In the framework thereof, it is envisaged to equip the branches of administration services provision center with hardware and office machines, to provide in-service education for administrators, and to create mobile administrator service. Besides, over 2018, PLEDDG-supported Association of Zaporizhia ATO Veterans implemented the project on creating conditions for occupational retraining of ATO veterans in Zaporizhia. It was a unique project. During one year, 40 ATO veterans were being trained to obtain the qualification of electric and gas welder, and were employed afterwards, – Valerii Edeliev said.

Following the opinion of the participants of the session, PLEDDG has proved its efficiency, as the objectives set out at the start of the cooperation are fulfilled, and a great number of projects have been accomplished only due to cooperation with the Project. However, it is crucial today not to be satisfied with what has already been achieved, but to develop new initiatives based on the knowledge gained.
