Zaporizhia hosted a two-day media training during which Ukrainian and world-renowned journalists were teaching local mass media representatives to disclose propaganda false reports and verify the politicians’ declarations, frequently conflicting with reality.

The training was organized by the Canadian project “Partnership for Local Economic Development” (PLEDDG Project) jointly with the Institute of Mass Information. To participate therein as media trainers, the event welcomed Simon Ostrovsky, a famous American broadcaster, and Olena Churanova, the StopFake website journalist.

In the course of an intense two-day program, the representatives of all types of Zaporizhia mass media learned about the subtleties of verification of information sources, ethical aspects in the work of a journalist, including working “in conflict zones” and peculiarities of highlighting “touchy” issues in media. However, the organizers dedicated most of the time to the skills of unveiling “fakes” in photo- and video-materials by using case stories, as it is no secret that latest technologies allow for making quite believable “information subversions”.
