On February 26, in Kyiv, a session of the Committee on Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men of the Association of Ukrainian Cities was held in the framework of PLEDDG Project. The event welcomed parliament members, representatives of Ukrainian and Canadian self-governance bodies and NGOs. Overall, the event gathered together more than 50 people.

The session of the Committee was opened by Deputy Executive Manager of AUC Valeriy Baranov and Mayor of Pervomaisk and Chairman of the Section Liudmyla Dromashko. People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Co-Chairperson of Interfactional Deputy Association “Equal Opportunities”, Maria Ionova, told the participants about opportunities, sharing experience of the activity of the association at local level.

Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, Kateryna Levchenko, reported on the main areas of gender policy both at national and local levels. PLEDDG Senior Expert in Inter-governmental Cooperation and Economic Development, Oleksandr Ignatenko, delivered a presentation of the Project’s gender-oriented training products. Bev Eslinger, Edmonton (Canada) City Council Member, shared the experience on how to build effective partnership between city council and public sector. PLEDDG Project Manager Mariana Nikula reported on the instruments and initiatives developed with support of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in the framework of gender equality.
