One of the major PLEDDG Project’s tasks is to assist partner cities in drawing up and implementing their development strategies. Funding the events and projects on the strategies for city development implies making use of efficient sources, instruments, and the mechanisms facilitating economic growth, increase of cities’ competitiveness, and improvement of citizens’ living standards.

To this end, on June 11-13, at Vinnytsia’s “NGO-Hub”, with support of Vinnytsia City Council’s Department of Economics and Investments, PLEDDG experts delivered a three-day session on “The Sources and Instruments for Local Economic Development Funding” for representatives of PLEDDG partner cities who came from Vinnytsia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

During the training, the participants were introduced to the latest concepts and approaches to local economic development (LED) planning, learned basic LED funding instruments, namely those related to budgeting, credit financing, making investment, and obtaining grants, and discussed LED institutional basis and opportunities for intra-municipal collaboration, etc. The participants of the session had also an opportunity to talk to Pavlo Sheremeta, former Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, co-owner and director of PRORYV Strategy House. Representatives from Ukrainian Leadership Academy, who are now studying the ways of implementation of innovative projects on Vinnytsia strategic development, also joined the training session.

PLEDDG experts piloted the practical guide on “Local Economic Development Menu”, which is developed as part of PLEDDG activity. The guide containing an in-depth review of the main sources and instruments for LED funding and a summary of interesting Ukrainian and foreign practices is expected to be published in autumn 2018.
