Officials with the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) have returned from a trip to Ukraine where they shared a Canadian perspective to municipal government. AMM President Ralph Groening, accompanied by Executive Director Denys Volkov, travelled to the cities of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia as part of an international project through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Financed by Global Affairs Canada, Partnership for Local Economic Development and Democratic Governance (PLEDDG).

The series of practical training seminars on the use of the Prozorro.Sale system for the representatives of local authorities, media and public activists were held in Zaporizhia. The training was organized by PLEDDG. The main goal is to raise public awareness about the effective management and ownership of municipal property.

“Projects Preparation for the receiving of the EU and State Regional Development Fund (SRDF) Sector Budget Support” training session was held in Vinnytsia, with the support of PLEDDG. The training was attended by the representatives of the amalgamated territorial communities, local authorities and structural divisions of the oblast state administration.

The “Projects Preparation for the receiving of the EU and SRDF Sector Budget Support Funding” training was held in Ivano-Frankivsk with the support of PLEDDG. The participants got acquainted with the theory and practice of the regional development projects competition.

Poltava City Council held a regular meeting of the working group on marketing strategy. The Poltava Marketing Strategy is represented by a set of actions aimed at implementing and promoting the interests of residents of the city, events that will contribute to the formation of a positive image of Poltava and creation of comfortable environment for the life of local citizens.

PLEDDG has supported the “Projects Preparation for the receiving of the EU and State Regional Development Fund (SRDF) Sector Budget Support” training in Zaporizhia. Within the frames of the event, the "2027 Development Strategy" round table has been conducted. The meeting has gathered Zaporizhia oblast local economic development experts.

The report on strategic environmental assessment of 2027 Sustainable Regional Development Strategy was presented in Vinnytsia. During the meeting, participants discussed how strategic environmental assessment could track the actual consequences of the measures envisaged in the 2027 Strategy.

On December 17, a meeting of PLEDDG Steering Committee was held in Vinnytsia. The parties discussed joint projects that have been implemented throughout cooperation, and common achievements. The partnership with PLEDDG allowed experts, consultants, specialists of Vinnytsia City Council and the public to elaborate a number of strategic program documents, the implementation of which creates a fundamentally new opportunities for the development in these areas.

There is no doubt as to the need and relevance of planning activities at the local level. Dolyna community is actively developing and implementing a strategic approach to planning sustainable territorial development. A strategic benchmark in this activity is 2027 Dolyna Subregion Development Strategy. In order to monitor the implementation of its goals, both strategic and operational, periodic monitoring of the Strategy implementation is carried out.

On March 20, 2018, Ukrainian parliament adopted the law "On strategic Environmental Assessment" No. 2354-VIII, which is one of the key requirements of the Association Agreement. The law establishes the procedure for the implementation of strategic environmental assessment, the mechanism for conducting cross-border consultations, informing about the decision and monitoring the impact of the implementation of the state planning document on the environment.
